The Incredible, Inedible Egg

"Hard cooking an egg is considered one of the most basic of culinary skills."
...and I failed. If I were a Sim, my cooking skill would be 1/2 (not quite zero since I haven't set fire to my stove...yet). "How hard can it be to hard-boil an egg?", I naively thought to myself. I put my egg in a pot, filled it with cold water, and let it boil for about 5 or so minutes. After letting it cool on the countertop, I tried to peel the egg but the egg white kept sticking to the shell pieces. I think in the end I threw away half the egg white with the shell pieces, and was left with this pathetic-looking pock-marked egg.

Humbly acknowledging my cooking newbness, I looked on-line for help. Holy shlamoly, I didn't realize there were so many things to consider when boiling an egg. So then, I have to ask, how do you hard-cook an egg?

Do you....
  • Place the egg in boiling water/cold water, then bring it to a boil?
  • Add salt to the water?
  • Add vinegar to the water?
  • Prick a hole in the air sac?
  • Turn off heat when the water is about to boil/keep boiling using a timer?
  • Plunge the egg in ice-cold water when it's done/let it cool by itself?

  • If you were like me and have absolutely no idea what this stuff does, go here.
