paid 1/2 day off, every week

My 2nd week at work, and I just realized the full significance of one of the perks. We get every Tuesday afternoon off as paid "education time", or "ET", as they call it here. When I was interviewing here, I had assumed that that meant the whole afternoon was full of conferences or meetings, for training purposes; I thought the "time off" part just meant we had no patient duties.

In actuality, the meeting only lasts from 12:30pm-1:30pm, with lunch provided. We get to go home afterwards. Wow, pretty cool, huh? So what do most people do with their Education Time? I hear many docs go "learn" how to play golf every Tuesday afternoon.

of course, your librarian friend would say that it's a perfect time to answer those evidence based (PICO) questions that have been mulling around from your patient encounters . . . and then learn to play golf ;)
