21 hours straight

My first overnight shift is tonight. I came into work at 1pm, and work until 8:30am tomorrow. Fortunately, besides me, there will be 2 other docs, and apparently they are full-time nocturnists, so they're pros at this. They usually try to shift beepers around so that we all can get a couple hours of sleep sometime during the night.

I wonder how these full-time nocturnists can do it, working everyday from 10p-8:30am. I had to do this back in residency for a whole month each year, and I couldn't wait for it to be over with. Going to bed when it was bright daylight outside, when everybody else was on the road going to work, was just so unnatural.

Haha, just hope I don't get so tired, that I make a mistake. Hrm, maybe that's why they call this [cue spooky music] the graveyard shift.... [cue maniacal laughter]
