Just started...
...on the Rheumatology module of my Boards review, and look what I find on the very 1st page:
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS)

EDS is caused by abnormalities either in collagen synthesis or in the enzymes involved in posttranslational processing of collagen.
Small and large joints may permit circus-like contortions, but joints are also vulnerable to sprains, subluxations, and dislocations. Certain joints, such as the shoulder, knee and TMJ dislocate frequently.
Prior to pregnancy, patients with EDS should have genetic counseling. Children with EDS should be provided with information about the disorder, so they can understand why contact sports and other physically stressful activities should be avoided. Children should be taught early on that demonstrating the unusual positions they can maintain due to loose joints should not be done as this may cause early degeneration of the joints.
Therapy is directed at symptoms, inasmuch as correction of the connective tissue defects is not currently possible.

So for those of you out there with hypermobile joints, careful... this could be you ;)

oh man, that describes me all over the place! besides my hyperextending-everything (knees, elbows, etc), and super-flexibility, i also have tmj dysfunction and at one time my jaws locked for a couple of weeks (i think that was before you were around.) i think i will use this as an excuse the next time people ask me to put my legs behind my head so they can laugh at me. :)
I'm in LA for a few days ... when are you free? Actually my souvenirs will be coming in later ...
