David Crowder at the OC Fair
Couple of days ago, I got the chance to go see David Crowder in concert with members of my small group. Along with many of you readers out there, I had just seen him in concert in March in San Jose (which I wrote about here), but at that time, he was the opening act. Today, he was the headliner, and so I had been looking forward to this concert for a while.
Demographically speaking, I found it interesting that like the previously mentioned Third Day concert in March, the crowd was all white, despite the fact that we were near Irvine and UCI, with a huge Asian Christian contingent at Newsong Irvine. But, more like the Tomlin concert, this crowd was much younger, lots of kids, teenagers, and young 20's. In fact in the row ahead of us was a bunch of little kids all wearing identical Crowderhead T-shirts (the green one, with the squirrel).
(from left to right) James, Maria, Jayne, Alex, and Josh. The concert was at an outdoor amphitheatre. Fortunately, it had cooled down a lot by evening.
"Pash" rock band Falling Up. The only song I recognized was Moonlit, which is pretty good. Lots of headbanging and aimless frenetic activity, which proved very popular among the younger members of the audience.
Next up was the all girl band, Barlowgirl. I was surprised when they came on stage, and there were only 3 of them! Thinking they looked and sounded alike, they mentioned that they were sisters, raised as PK's, and their last name is Barlow (ohhhhh....).The youngest sister, who's not quite 21, plays the drums; the eldest plays electric. The middle sister is the lead singer, and switched between electric, bass, and keyboards, sometimes several times in the same song! And with personal sharings about eating disorders, coupled with a strong "Wait to date" message (none of them have ever dated), and song titles like, Never Alone and I Need You to Love Me, it seems quite obvious that they are targeting the young female demographic.
And then the man himself, David Crowder. He played a lot of the same songs as he did in San Jose, sometimes even intro'ing them the same way. But that's ok, 'cuz it was still a blast! There was still the same jumping up and down and dancing in the aisles that we saw before.Seeing Crowder in person, I always half expect Scooby-Doo to show up. Am I alone in this?
Lots of wonder tonic-producing Dah-eery's here, thoughtfully releasing noxious gases in our general direction.
